Birch

Birch class is mixed age group class made up predominantly Year 8 pupils with a small number of Year 7's.

Our curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum and as such we teach 3 core subjects: Maths, English and Science and 9 foundation subjects: Art, PE, RE, Citizenship, DT, Moden Foreign Languages, Geography, History and Music.

To enrich our curriculum, we also have a weekly Forest School Session and a weekly visit to the Life Skills Village where our pupils can experience a range of activities such as bike maintenance, a trip to the beauty Salon, making food in the flat or to experience the sensory activities in the Thrive pod.

Within KS3, pupils partake in the Junior Award Scheme for Schools (JASS) where we undertake a different project each half term to give children the opportunity to experience all aspects of project management. Children discuss, plan, create then evaluate their chosen project. The projects always involve hands on learning such as organising an event to raise money for charity or designing their own sport.

Within KS3 pupils also have the opportunity to go on a residential trip for two nights. Once there, children can enjoy the challenges of: abseiling, zip lining, high ropes, archery, cave exploring, rock climbing and defeating the inflatable assault course!
