Enrichment and Personal Development
At Rigby Hall our pupils have a fantastic Life Skills Village whereby their learning can be put into real life contexts. We have several 'pods' on the field to make up this village, which include a car and bike maintenance pod, a cafe, a horticulture pod, a construction pod, a hair and beauty pod, a gym and a fully functional flat. All of these facilities allow our pupils to apply their knowledge and skills to the world of work and life beyond school, including preparation for independent living. Our youngest pupils, from age 4, also make use of the Life Skills Village and enhance their curriculum through being customers in the hair and beauty pod or develop their role play in the cafe. They also learn to develop those important skills for the home, such as tidying up in the flat, laying a table for dinner and learning to make a bed, as well as many other opportunities.
We pride ourselves on enriching pupils' curriculum through many educational visits over the year. We also provide our pupils with opportunities to bring the curriculum to life through visitors to school, such as Science and History workshops.
Our Secondary pupils take part in Residentials, with our KS3 cohort having the opportunity to visit the Pioneer Centre annually, as well as our KS4 and Sixth Form pupils attending PGL in Devon.
Our Secondary pupils take part in enterprise and volunteering opportunities, with KS3 engaging in the Jass Award Scheme, and our KS4 and KS5 pupils working towards achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which includes overnight expeditions.
Throughout all ages, our pupils take part in many sporting opportunities with local schools and community events. Our pupils engage in Bell-boating at Flyford Flavell and Upton Warren and have visited Wimbledon, Wembley and Aston Villa. We also develop creativity in our pupils through events held in school, such as the Southampton Youth Orchestra concert and visits out of school, including watching the Diversity dance group and trips the theatre in London and to the Hippodrome in Birmingham.
We hold a range of lunchtime and afterschool clubs which have been designed from pupil voice. For example we have a Lego club, a school choir and an art club.
