Willow Class has children in Year 2 and Year 3. We follow the Primary National Curriculum, adapted to suit the needs of our pupils. Lots of our activities include sensory and play-based learning, which our children love!

In Willow, we use a range of speaking and listening activities to help with communication and to encourage our pupils to interact and respond with one another. This can include using symbols and signing.

Through using individual, small group and whole class teaching, our children’s abilities are catered for and we fit the curriculum and topics around them. We are developing children’s reading and writing skills, with most of the class using phonics or a suitable alternative for them. In maths, we have a mix of number and shape/measure activities each week to give the children a broad curriculum. We really enjoy getting hands-on and using practical activities to keep us moving throughout these lessons!

Children’s independence is encouraged by giving them extra responsibilities around the classroom, such as ensuring their coat area is tidy and by taking the register at the start of morning and afternoon sessions.
